Description
The U.S. Navy announced on 10 April 2026 its decision to inactivate the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Boise, ending a decade spent pier-side awaiting a long-delayed engineered overhaul. Boise last deployed in 2015 and had been scheduled for overhaul since fiscal year 2016. By April 2026 approximately $1.6 billion had been invested in repairs, with an additional $1.9 billion required to complete work that would yield only three operational deployments β far below a Virginia-class boat's output. Commissioned on 7 November 1992, the 53rd Los Angeles-class submarine will be defueled and inactivated; funds redirected to newer submarine programs.
