Description
USS Cleveland (LCS-31) was commissioned in a ceremony held in Cleveland, Ohio on 16 May 2026, becoming the 16th and last ship of the Freedom-class littoral combat ship program. She had been delivered by Fincantieri Marinette Marine on 26 November 2025. Laid down in June 2021 and launched in April 2023, Cleveland was homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. The Freedom class, developed from a 2002 program, displaces approximately 3,410 tonnes at full load and reaches speeds exceeding 48 knots. The class cancellation made Cleveland's commissioning a symbolic milestone in U.S. Navy littoral combat ship history.
