Description
Naval Group delivered De Grasse, the fourth Suffren-class (Barracuda) nuclear-powered attack submarine, to the French Navy on 24 June 2026. The handover came four months after sea trials began on 24 February 2026; the boat had rolled out of its construction hall in May 2025 and its reactor reached criticality in December 2025. At roughly 99 metres and 5,200 tonnes submerged, the Suffren class carries MdCN cruise missiles, Exocet SM39 anti-ship missiles, and F21 heavyweight torpedoes. De Grasse is the fourth of six boats replacing the ageing Rubis-class submarines.
