Germany Navy MEKO A-200-class Ordered

Germany's Bundestag Budget Committee approved a €6.3 billion allocation on 8 July 2026 for the procurement of four MEKO A-200 DEU frigates, to be designated the F128 class, with an option for four additional vessels worth around €5.3 billion. The accelerated purchase from thyssenkrupp Marine Systems restores capability after Berlin cancelled the troubled F126 frigate program in June 2026 over cost escalations and contractor delays. The 4,000-tonne anti-submarine warfare frigates will be tasked with tracking Russian submarines in the North Atlantic; the first ship is scheduled for delivery in December 2029.
