Description

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on 8 September 2026 that it had recovered a United States Navy uncrewed submersible at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, releasing video of the vehicle on a barge. It was identified as an Anduril Dive-LD, a 5.8 m autonomous underwater vehicle operated by Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Group 1 and used for mine countermeasures, seabed mapping and infrastructure inspection. US Central Command said the vehicle had been surveilling regional waters, had malfunctioned more than a day earlier, and carried neither sensitive data nor classified sonar or radar equipment. Anduril confirmed the loss, describing the type as an attritable system.
