Description
Greece and Italy signed an implementing arrangement in Rome on 8 September 2026 that formally activates the Hellenic Navy's acquisition of two Bergamini-class FREMM frigates from the Italian Navy. It sets the financial and technical terms, the transfer schedule and follow-on support by Fincantieri, with Greek shipyards to share maintenance and systems integration. Carlo Bergamini (F 590), in Italian service since 2013, is due to transfer in the first half of 2028 and Virginio Fasan (F 591) a year later. The price was not officially disclosed; Naval Technology put it at about 460 million euros. The ships will serve alongside Greece's new FDI frigates.
