Description

The Confiance class, also designated as Patrouilleurs Antilles Guyane (PAG) and formerly known as Patrouilleurs légers guyanais (PLG), is a class of patrol vessels operated by the French Navy. Designed by Mauric and constructed by Socarenam, the class was developed to replace the P400-class patrol vessels Gracieuse and Capricieuse. The Direction générale de l'Armement ordered the first two vessels in 2015, with hull construction taking place in Saint-Malo before towing to Boulogne-sur-Mer for fitting out, navigation system integration, and armament installation. A third vessel was ordered in September 2017 after Hurricane Irma exposed a weakness in French naval capabilities in the Caribbean Sea.

The vessels are configured for offshore patrol missions, including fisheries enforcement, counter-narcotics operations, and security patrols during Ariane rocket launches from French Guiana. For boarding and special forces operations, the ships carry rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs) manufactured by Zodiac Milpro International. One RHIB is deployed via an aft ramp and another via a davit. The ships accommodate a standard crew along with additional passengers. Armament consists of a remote-operated autocannon and machine gun mounts.

Three vessels of the class—Confiance, La Résolue, and La Combattante—entered service between 2017 and 2020. Confiance and La Résolue are based in French Guiana, while La Combattante is home-ported in Martinique. In late 2022, La Résolue deployed to Saint Lucia to deliver humanitarian aid, transporting food, clothing, and hygiene supplies following regional flooding. In early 2025, La Confiance conducted a counter-narcotics operation 1,300 kilometers off the coast of Martinique, intercepting a vessel transporting nine tons of cocaine.
