Description
The Type 920 (NATO reporting name: Anwei class) is a class of hospital ships operated by the People's Liberation Army Navy of China. Built by Guangzhou Shipyard International, the class consists of three active vessels. The lead ship, Daishan Dao (also known as Peace Ark), was commissioned in December 2008. The second vessel, Silk Road Ark, was commissioned in 2023, followed by Auspicious Ark in May 2025.
The vessels are designed with an onboard hangar and a helicopter pad. Medical facilities aboard the lead ship include 300 beds, 20 intensive care unit beds, and eight operating theatres, providing the capacity to perform 40 major surgeries per day. Diagnostic and treatment capabilities include X-ray, ultrasound, computerized tomography, hypothermia, hemodialysis, dental, and traditional Chinese medicine facilities. A remote networking and communications system is installed to allow teleconferencing with medical specialists on land.
The class is distributed across the regional fleets of the People's Liberation Army Navy. Daishan Dao is assigned to the East Sea Fleet and has been deployed for maritime health engagements and naval diplomacy since 2010. Silk Road Ark serves with the South Sea Fleet and completed its first medical mission in 2024. Auspicious Ark is operated by the North Sea Fleet.
