Description
The Victory class is a group of six multi-role combat vessels (MRCVs) being built by ST Engineering Marine for the Republic of Singapore Navy. They replace the Victory-class missile corvettes commissioned in the early 1990s and inherit their names and pennant numbers. Steel was cut on the first hull in March 2024 and deliveries are planned progressively from 2028.
At roughly 150 metres and 8,000 tonnes, the MRCVs are far larger than the corvettes they succeed and are conceived less as conventional surface combatants than as motherships for unmanned systems. Each ship is designed to launch and recover unmanned aerial, surface and underwater vehicles, extending the sensor and strike reach of a small navy across Singapore's sea lines of communication. Reported endurance exceeds 21 days and range is more than 7,000 nautical miles, roughly double that of the Formidable-class frigates.
The combat system is built around a Thales Sea Fire multifunction radar with an electro-optical suite from Safran and a hull-mounted sonar. Announced armament comprises three 32-cell vertical launch modules capable of firing VL MICA NG and Aster 30 B1 NT surface-to-air missiles, a 76 mm OTO Melara STRALES guided gun and 30 mm remote weapon stations. High levels of automation hold the core crew below 100.
