Description
A Spanish Air Force EF-18M crashed inside Zaragoza Air Base while flying a solo display rehearsal. Video of the accident showed the fighter entering a steep descent before striking the ground and burning. The pilot ejected shortly before impact and was taken to hospital with leg injuries and other trauma; Spain's Defence Ministry said no one else was hurt and the fire was contained on the airfield. The EF-18 has been the backbone of Spanish fighter aviation since the 1980s, and the upgraded EF-18M standard equips the wings at Zaragoza and Torrejon pending the arrival of the Eurofighter.
