Description
A United States Navy F-5N of an adversary training squadron crashed into the sea roughly 25 miles from Key West, Florida. The pilot ejected safely, was recovered by a Navy MH-60S helicopter and taken to a hospital in Miami, from which he was released. The aircraft was operating from Naval Air Station Key West, whose ranges over the Florida Straits host year-round air-combat training for Navy, Marine Corps and allied squadrons. The Navy's F-5s are refurbished Swiss airframes flown as dissimilar adversaries, simulating small and agile opponents against front-line fighter crews working up for deployment.
