United States Marine Corps F/A-18A/C/D Crash

A United States Marine Corps F/A-18D crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, late in the evening during a nighttime training flight. The service confirmed that the sole pilot was killed and that no one on the ground was injured. Emergency crews secured the remote crash site on government land east of the air station, and the Marine Corps opened an investigation. The F/A-18D is the two-seat all-weather variant flown by Miramar's fighter attack squadrons, and by 2023 the ageing Hornet fleet was being drawn down as squadrons transitioned to the F-35.
