Description
The final production MC-130J Commando II was delivered to Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, closing out the type production run for Air Force Special Operations Command. The MC-130J conducts clandestine infiltration, exfiltration and aerial refuelling of special operations helicopters and tiltrotors, replacing the MC-130E Combat Talon I and MC-130P Combat Shadow. Kirtland hosts the formal training unit for the type. With production complete, AFSOC fleet size is now fixed and future capability growth depends on modification rather than new airframes.
