Republic of Korea Army Heron Crash

A South Korean Army IAI Heron reconnaissance drone collided with a parked KUH-1 Surion helicopter while landing at a military airfield in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, at about 1 p.m. on 17 March 2025, starting a fire that destroyed the helicopter, the Army Ground Operations Command said. There were no casualties, the fire was put out in about 20 minutes and the cause was placed under investigation; the Army ruled out North Korean jamming. The Korea Herald reported that Herons had been involved in landing incidents in 2018 and 2024. South Korea adopted the medium-altitude type in 2013.
