Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet Crash

A Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet of the Nigerian Air Force crashed while climbing during a routine test flight from Niger State. Both pilots ejected and survived. Nigeria operates a fleet of Alpha Jets, many acquired second-hand from Germany and Portugal, in the light attack role against insurgent groups in the north-east and armed groups in the north-west. The type has been heavily tasked and has suffered repeated attrition, prompting Nigeria to broaden its light attack force with A-29 Super Tucanos and M-346s.
