Description
On March 2, 2026, a third U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over Kuwait, completing the tally of three jets lost in the same friendly fire incident. Video footage widely circulated on social media showed an F-15E in a flat spin with its vertical tails missing and fire engulfing the empennage before crashing near Al Jahra, Kuwait. Reports attributed the shootdowns to a single Kuwaiti Air Force F/A-18 Hornet that fired three missiles β believed to be AIM-9 Sidewinders β at the Strike Eagles during chaotic air defense operations against Iranian drones. Both crew members ejected and were assisted by local Kuwaitis. The incident marked the most significant blue-on-blue air-to-air engagement of the 21st century.
