Description
A U.S. Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II ground attack aircraft crashed in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz on April 3, approximately the same time an F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran. The lone pilot ejected safely over the gulf and was quickly recovered by U.S. forces, receiving medical treatment at a facility in a Gulf state. The cause of the crash has not been disclosed by the Department of Defense, and officials provided limited details about the circumstances. The A-10 had been actively deployed in Operation Epic Fury, primarily targeting Iranian fast attack craft threatening shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
