Hungarian Air Force Mi-8/17 Retired

The Hungarian Defence Forces held a ceremonial farewell on 17 June 2026 for their last Mi-17 transport helicopters, retired alongside the Mi-24 fleet, Hungary Today reported. Seven Mi-17s were procured from 1987 and served with the 86th Helicopter Brigade, flying passenger and cargo transport, search and rescue, medical evacuation, firefighting support and parachute training, as well as international deployments. Their tasks pass to the Airbus H145M and H225M helicopters ordered under the Zrínyi modernisation programme, of which 20 and 16 respectively were bought. The retirement ends Hungary's use of Soviet-designed helicopters.
