Description

During the night of 17-18 July 2026, Iran struck Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near Azraq, Jordan, with ballistic missiles and drones in retaliation for the US bombing campaign against Iran. CENTCOM confirmed two US service members were killed in action and one remains missing, with around 29 wounded; four were evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and later returned to duty. According to the New York Times, a significant number of Black Hawk-family helicopters, including HH-60W combat rescue helicopters, were damaged near the aircraft parking areas, though no manned aircraft was confirmed destroyed. The base hosts the largest concentration of US tactical aircraft in the region.
