CBS News reported on 10 September 2026 that an A-10C was struck during the Iranian ballistic-missile barrage fired at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near Azraq during the night of 8-9 September. A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Reuters, said the strike left the aircraft with a missing wing. Air & Space Forces Magazine, relaying the CBS account, said no aircraft was reported destroyed. The US President said in a television interview on 10 September that there was no truth to the reports of damage at the base. Jordan’s armed forces said 18 of the 20 missiles fired at the base were intercepted and the remaining two fell in unpopulated areas. US Central Command did not respond to requests for comment, and in July had denied that any US aircraft were damaged in Iranian attacks. The barrage followed US strikes that sank five Iranian tankers on 8 September.
The acting US Secretary of the Navy told The Epoch Times on 9 September 2026 that Iranian strikes "blew the hell out of" Naval Support Activity Bahrain, headquarters of the Fifth Fleet, and that a task force is weighing whether to rebuild the base.
