Description
Iran's Army air defence force said on 8 September 2026 that it had detected, tracked and destroyed a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz with a newly fielded air defence system operating under the country's integrated air defence network, Press TV reported. The variant was not disclosed. The US Air Force retired its MQ-1 Predators in 2018, and the Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle is the MQ-1 variant still in US service, so the loss is recorded against it. US officials told CBS News on 17 September that Iran had brought down at least two MQ-1s in recent days, without saying where or when.
