Description
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on 14 September 2026 that its Aerospace Force, operating within Iran's integrated air defence network, had intercepted and destroyed an MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz; its navy said the same day that it had destroyed a US unmanned surface vessel at the entrance to the strait. The variant was not disclosed. The US Air Force retired its MQ-1 Predators in 2018, and the Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle is the MQ-1 variant still in US service, so the loss is recorded against it. Three days later US officials told CBS News that Iran had shot down at least two MQ-1s in recent days, without saying where.
