Description
Ablitas Military Airfield is a Spanish Air Force (Ejército del Aire) installation located at Ablitas, in the province of Navarre, northern Spain. The airfield lies in the vicinity of the Bardenas Reales firing range.
The airfield entered use during the Spanish Civil War. It remains active and is operated by the Spanish Air Force, which maintains a permanent detachment on site.
The airfield is distinguished by its unpaved dirt runway, the only surface of this type in Spanish Air Force service. This gives it a capability for austere and semi-prepared strip operations not available at other Spanish military aerodromes, and it has been used for landing trials with transport aircraft including the Airbus A400M.
