Description

INS Kohassa is an Indian naval air station located at Shibpur on North Andaman Island. The facility operates under the Andaman and Nicobar Command of the Indian Armed Forces and is managed by the Indian Naval Air Arm.

The Indian Navy established the installation in 2001 as Naval Air Station (NAS) Shibpur. It originally functioned as a Forward Operating Air Base for surveillance operations in the North Andaman region. The Indian government sanctioned the commissioning of the facility as a full-fledged air station in 2009. Following an extension of its facilities, the station was renamed INS Kohassa in January 2019.

The installation does not host permanently based aircraft squadrons. It supports transiting aircraft, including Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard Dornier 228 aircraft and HAL Chetak helicopters, which conduct scheduled surveillance missions over the North Andaman Islands. Additionally, the Indian Air Force operates Dornier aircraft at the station for weekly courier duties between Port Blair and Diglipur.
