INS Parundu (Uchipuli, Ramanathapuram)

INS Parundu is an Indian naval air station located near Uchipuli in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu. The facility occupies the site of the former Ramnad Civil Aerodrome. Naval aviation began utilizing the airfield in 1982 to monitor the Palk Strait during the Sri Lankan Civil War. The site was fully transferred to the Indian Navy on 9 June 1985 and was initially commissioned as INS Rajali II. On 26 March 2009, the installation was renamed and commissioned as INS Parundu.

The base operates under the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy. It functions as a reconnaissance station monitoring the South East Bay of Bengal, the northern Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Palk Strait. Stationed units include Indian Naval Air Squadrons operating HAL Chetak helicopters and Islander reconnaissance aircraft. The installation also hosts INAS 344, which operates IAI Heron and IAI Searcher Mk II unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Base infrastructure includes dedicated facilities for UAV operations and has been upgraded to support larger aircraft. On 25 August 2017, an Integrated Automatic Aviation Meteorological System (IAAMS) was installed at the station.
