INS Baaz (Campbell Bay)

INS Baaz is an Indian naval air station located near Campbell Bay on Great Nicobar Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Positioned overlooking the Strait of Malacca and the Six Degree Channel separating Great Nicobar from the Indonesian island of Sumatra, it is the southernmost air station of the Indian Armed Forces. The facility was commissioned on 31 July 2012 by Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma, then-Chief of the Naval Staff, with Commander SK Singh Deo serving as the first commanding officer. It is the first air station established in the Nicobar Islands.

The station is operated by the Indian Naval Air Arm under the joint-services Andaman and Nicobar Command of the Indian Armed Forces. INS Baaz provides logistic, communication, and administrative support for surveillance, patrolling missions, and maritime air operations. Additionally, the facility supports regular intra-island sorties conducted by the civil administration.

In terms of aircraft infrastructure, INS Baaz accommodates Indian Navy Dornier 228 reconnaissance aircraft and helicopters. The station is also capable of operating Indian Air Force C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.
