Description
King Faisal Naval Base is an active military installation located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, operated by the Royal Saudi Navy. The facility houses the headquarters of the navy's Western Fleet, one of the two main formations of the Saudi navy, which directs operations in the Red Sea. The base also supports units of Saudi Naval Aviation.
The installation is the founding site of Saudi Naval Aviation, established when a Naval Aviation Wing began operating from the base in 1985. Following the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the United States Air Force used the facility during the buildup to the 1991 Gulf War.
