Description
Okadama Airport, also known as Sapporo Airfield, is a dual-use military and civil aviation facility located in Japan. Established in 1944, the active installation is operated by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. The military section of the facility is designated as Camp Okadama, which shares the airport with the Hokkaido Air System's scheduled turboprop network.
Camp Okadama is the headquarters of the Northern Army Aviation Group and hosts the Northern Air Corps Headquarters. Additional units stationed at the facility include the Northern Helicopter Corps, the No. 7 Division Airborne, and the No. 11 Division Airborne. The Northern Helicopter Corps operates KUH-1 Surion and UH-1 Iroquois helicopters from the installation.
