Qasim Army Aviation Base (Dhamial Airbase)

Qasim Army Aviation Base, also known as Dhamial Airbase, is a Pakistan Army facility located in southern Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Originally constructed in 1941 during the Burma campaign, the site operated as a Para Training Centre before being abandoned in 1945. The Pakistan Army reactivated the site on 15 October 1962 as Dhamial Army Air Base, establishing it as the branch's first airbase and transferring Army Aviation operations from Chaklala airbase. It was redesignated as Army Aviation Air Base on 3 October 1964 and renamed Qasim Army Aviation Base on 12 December 1972 after Major Muhammad Qasim. Initially built outside the city limits, urban expansion has since surrounded the installation with residential developments, including Askari IIIX.

The installation is the headquarters of the Pakistan Army Aviation Corps. Base operations primarily involve small fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Infrastructure at the facility includes an overhaul center servicing rotary-wing aircraft, including the Mil Mi-17, Bell 412, and Bell AH-1F Cobra.

Historically, the base received and operated the Pakistan Army's first helicopters, the Bell H-13 Sioux, beginning in 1964. In 1979, the aircraft types operating from the base included the Aérospatiale Alouette III, Bell 47G, Cessna O-1 Bird Dog, Mil Mi-8, and Saab Supporter.
