Description
The Punisher is a multifunctional unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) developed in 2015 by Ukrainian combat veterans to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Production and crew training began in 2016. The system has been supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2019, partially funded by private individuals, and was officially contracted by the Ukrainian military on August 18, 2023. By 2022, more than 230 Punisher drones had been deployed in combat operations, and over 100 crews had undergone training at official Ukrainian Armed Forces training centers.
The UCAV has a length of 1.47 meters, a wingspan of 2.92 meters, and a maximum takeoff weight of 7.5 kg. It is operated by a three-person ground crew consisting of an external pilot, an operator, and a technician. Launched via catapult, the aircraft has a preparation time of 10 minutes and a reload time of 5 minutes. It operates at an altitude of 400 meters with a range of 45 km, a cruise speed of 28 m/s, and a maximum speed of 55 m/s. The drone is designed to operate quietly without a heat trail. Targeting and navigation systems are separated between the aircraft and the Roda Lizard ground control station, protecting navigation data in the event of aircraft loss or capture. Each standard system includes two aircraft, three battery sets, a catapult, a ground control station, an antenna, a STANAG-standardized cable, a ballistic calculator, and transport and maintenance equipment.
The Punisher features a patented modular payload system with a capacity of 2.5 kg, delivering unguided munitions with a 4-meter drop accuracy and a 50-meter blast radius. It utilizes three types of 75 mm diameter, 550 mm long, 2.5 kg unguided bombs: the UB-F1-75HE GAMECHANGER high-explosive fragmentation bomb for targeting personnel, light armor, command posts, radar, and electronic warfare stations; the UB-F2-75HEAT NUTCRACKER cumulative bomb for heavy equipment, fortified positions, and watercraft; and the UB-F3-75HEI BBQ high-explosive fragmentation and cumulative bomb designed for personnel, light armor, electronic warfare installations, and ammunition or fuel depots.
Operationally, the Punisher is utilized for aerial reconnaissance, special operations support, logistics, search and rescue, medical delivery, and psychological operations behind enemy lines. The platform was exhibited internationally at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2023 event in London.
