Serbia Army

The Serbian Land Forces, the land warfare component of the Serbian Armed Forces, are headquartered in Niš. Command structure centers on four primary maneuver brigades: the 1st Brigade headquartered in Novi Sad, the 2nd Brigade in Kraljevo, the 3rd Brigade in Niš, and the 4th Brigade in Vranje. Specialized supporting formations include the Mixed Artillery Brigade headquartered in Niš, the River Flotilla based in Novi Sad, the 72nd Special Operations Brigade in Pančevo, and the 63rd Parachute Brigade in Niš. Primary garrisons are located in Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica, Valjevo, Kragujevac, Leskovac, and Novi Pazar, alongside forward positions along the Administrative Line with Kosovo.

Combat arms comprise armored, mechanized, infantry, artillery, air defense, and engineering units. Armored units operate M-84, modernized M-84AS1 and M-84AS2, and T-72MS main battle tanks. Mechanized infantry is equipped with BVP M-80A and modernized BVP M-80AB1 tracked infantry fighting vehicles. Wheeled infantry and reconnaissance units operate Lazar 3, Lazar 3M, Miloš, M20 MRAP, BOV OT, BOV KIV, and BRDM-2MS armored vehicles. Field artillery units deploy NORA B-52 155 mm self-propelled howitzers, 2S1 Gvozdika 122 mm self-propelled howitzers, and M-77 Oganj, M-18 Oganj, and PULS multiple launch rocket systems. Ground-based air defense organic to land formations includes PASARS-16 gun-missile systems, 2K12 Kub, Strela-10, and HQ-17AE surface-to-air missile platforms. Rotary-wing support provided in coordination with the air branch includes Mi-35M assault helicopters, Mi-17V-5 transport helicopters, and H145M light utility helicopters.

Serbia maintains a policy of military neutrality, orienting ground forces primarily toward territorial defense, border monitoring, and crisis response. Ground troops contribute to international peacekeeping operations under United Nations and European Union mandates, including deployments to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. Domestic modernization programs executed by state-owned defense companies focus on upgrading legacy armored vehicles, expanding production of Lazar 3 and Miloš wheeled armored vehicles, and producing NORA B-52 artillery systems. Force development emphasizes unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions, automated ground platforms, and modernized command systems across brigade tactical groups.
