Slovakia Army

The Slovak Ground Forces, designated as Pozemne sily, operate under the Ground Forces Command headquartered in Trencin. The force structure is organized around two primary formations: the 1st Mechanized Brigade, headquartered in Topolcany, and the 2nd Mechanized Brigade, headquartered in Presov. Combat and combat support elements include the 5th Artillery Regiment based in Roznava, the 71st Command Support Battalion in Trencin, and the 103rd Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence Battalion in Roznava. Subordinate mechanized infantry battalions are garrisoned across Martin, Nitra, Levice, Trebisov, and Michalovce, while the 14th Tank Battalion is stationed in Trebisov.

Armor units operate Leopard 2A4 and T-72M1 main battle tanks. Mechanized infantry units field BVP-1 and BVP-2 tracked infantry fighting vehicles, alongside Patria AMV XP 8x8 armored modular vehicles and CV9035 tracked infantry fighting vehicles. Artillery units are equipped with Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers, RM-70 Modular multiple launch rocket systems, and D-30 towed howitzers. Infantry anti-tank assets include Spike LR II guided missile systems, Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles, and RPG-75 anti-tank weapons. Small arms comprise Grand Power M4M1 assault rifles, GP Q1 pistols, CZ vz. 58 rifles, and SVD sniper rifles.

Modernization programs focus on replacing Soviet-era equipment with NATO-standard platforms and upgrading soldier systems. Ground forces receive Patria AMV XP 8x8 vehicles featuring local assembly and domestic manufacturing participation. The acquisition of CV9035 tracked infantry fighting vehicles includes domestic industrial involvement for manufacturing and long-term maintenance. German-supplied Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks have been integrated into the armored force structure. Personal equipment upgrades include the M25 combat uniform, high-cut ballistic helmets, modern plate carriers, night vision devices, and locally manufactured Grand Power small arms.

The Slovak Ground Forces conduct territorial defense and participate in multinational missions under NATO, European Union, and United Nations mandates. Personnel deploy to the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia as part of collective defense arrangements. The ground forces also maintain continuous operational deployments with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and the NATO-led Kosovo Force.
