Description
The CBU-103 entered service in the late 1990s. The system consists of a CBU-87 Combined Effects Munition integrated with a Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser (WCMD) tail kit.
The munition utilizes GPS/INS guidance to compensate for wind drift during descent from the delivery aircraft. The payload consists of 202 BLU-97/B submunitions. These submunitions provide a combination of effects, including a shaped charge for armor penetration, a fragmentation sleeve for anti-personnel and anti-materiel utility, and an incendiary component.
The United States operates the CBU-103, which remains in active service. The weapon was used in combat during operations in Kosovo and Iraq.
