A Russian Su-30 fighter and an Il-78 aerial refuelling tanker that had taken off from Kaliningrad briefly entered Lithuanian airspace. Spanish Eurofighters on the Baltic Air Policing mission launched to patrol the area. The Kaliningrad exclave borders Lithuania and Poland, and traffic between it and mainland Russia routes past or through the Baltic states' airspace, which makes navigation errors and deliberate probing hard to tell apart.

An Italian Eurofighter on NATO Baltic Air Policing duty destroyed an unidentified drone over eastern Latvia before dawn on 14 August, the second time the alliance's quick-reaction force has shot one down over the country this year.
