A Russian cruise missile crossed into Poland and struck a field near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, 100 km from the Ukrainian border, detonating on impact and leaving a crater just outside the settlement. Prime minister Donald Tusk said it was likely a Kh-101, which Polish authorities later confirmed. An earlier missile had turned back short of the border; a further one was detected inside Polish airspace and an F-16 was sent to intercept it before it vanished from radar. Air raid sirens sounded in Lublin, Krasnystaw and across the Lublin Voivodeship.
An Italian Eurofighter on NATO Baltic Air Policing duty destroyed an unidentified drone over eastern Latvia before dawn on 14 August, the second time the alliance's quick-reaction force has shot one down over the country this year.
