Moldovan radars detected an aerial object entering national airspace at 17:37 local time on 17 August 2026, during a Russian strike wave against the Odesa region across the border. The Defence Ministry closed the airspace over the Centru region for fifteen minutes before the object disappeared from radar near Talmaza, in the Stefan Voda district. An explosion followed about three kilometres from the village, setting dry grass alight; no casualties or damage to property were reported. Moldovan authorities did not identify the object's origin, while the Ukrainian Air Force said it was a Russian S8000 Banderol cruise missile, a small turbojet weapon launched from an Orion drone.
