A fire broke out around 17:50 on 26 August 2026 on the bank of the Chilia arm of the Danube, roughly two kilometres upstream of Plauru in Tulcea County, after residents reported hearing an explosion. The blaze burned about 2,000 square metres of forest before firefighters and local foresters extinguished it that evening; Border Police secured the site overnight. The next morning an EOD team from the Ministry of National Defence recovered drone fragments at the scene, finding no explosive residue, and the case was referred to the Constanța Court of Appeal prosecutor's office. The drone's origin was not stated.
