A Turkish drone entered the Athens Flight Information Region without a flight plan on 28 August 2026 and violated Greek national airspace near Alexandroupolis, close to the border with Turkey, the Greek military said. Two F-16 fighters were scrambled to identify and intercept the aircraft, which approached the area around Alexandroupolis airport as a passenger aircraft was preparing for take-off; flight safety was not affected. After the interception the drone altered course, continued over the northeastern Aegean around Thasos and Samothrace, and headed back toward the Turkish coast.
