What Happened
Romania's Ministry of National Defence reported three separate incursions over the Black Sea off Sulina, in Tulcea County, on 14 October 2026. In the morning an aerial target crossed briefly east of Sulina before Ukrainian air defences shot it down over Ukraine. At 17:38 another entered about 22 kilometres north-east of Sulina, above Romanian territorial waters, and left eight minutes later. At 20:04 two more entered: radar contact with one was lost over the sea, while the other headed for Vylkove and was destroyed near Reni. Romanian F-16s and Spanish F-18s were scrambled and RO-Alert warnings went out in Tulcea and Galați. The ministry did not name an origin.

GlobalMilitary.net's incident log counts 45 established violations of European airspace between January 1 and August 16, 2026, against 31 for the whole of 2025 - and almost all of the growth sits in incidents that ended with a shootdown or an explosion on the ground.
An Italian Eurofighter on NATO Baltic Air Policing duty destroyed an unidentified drone over eastern Latvia before dawn on 14 August, the second time the alliance's quick-reaction force has shot one down over the country this year.
