What Happened
Germany confirmed on July 23 that the minehunter Fulda and the tender Mosel would leave Djibouti for the eastern Mediterranean, ending their forward deployment for a possible European mine-countermeasures mission in the Strait of Hormuz. The two ships had been sent to the Horn of Africa in June to place mine-clearing capability within reach of the Gulf should European navies be asked to help reopen the strait. Berlin concluded that with no end to the conflict in sight, a clearing mission was unlikely to materialise.
