Description

The Light Multipurpose Guided Rocket (LMUR), also designated Kh-39, Izdeliye 305, or 9A-7755, is a Russian helicopter-launched air-to-surface missile. The LMUR designation originated in 2007 for a project that was abandoned in 2009. In 2011, the Russian Ministry of Defence commissioned a successor missile, designated Izdeliye 79, but development halted before testing. In 2012, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) contracted the development of Izdeliye 305, a variant featuring a two-way datalink to equip special operations helicopters. Testing occurred in 2015โ€“2016, leading to serial production. The Russian Ministry of Defence subsequently ordered the missile, testing it on the Mil Mi-28NM and Kamov Ka-52M helicopters before officially adopting the system in 2022.

The missile features a canard configuration with four front fins and four larger folding rear wings, two of which contain datalink antennas. The LMUR is heavier and carries a larger warhead than standard Russian helicopter-launched anti-tank guided missiles. The standard Izdeliye 305 variant utilizes a high-explosive demolition warhead, though a cumulative warhead version, potentially designated Izdeliye 306, may exist. The missile utilizes an optical and thermal imaging seeker and operates in two guidance modes. In the first mode, the operator locks onto the target prior to launch, allowing fire-and-forget operation. In the second mode, the missile is launched toward the target area using inertial guidance with satellite navigation corrections. A two-way datalink pod, the AS-BPLA, transmits the seeker's video feed back to the helicopter, allowing the operator to select or change targets mid-flight. The missile is deployed from single APU-305 or twin APU-L launch rails.

The LMUR is operated by the Russian FSB and the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is deployed on Mi-8MNP-2, Mi-28NM, and Ka-52M helicopters, with integration planned for Mi-8AMTSh-VN helicopters. An export version is designated Izdeliye 305E, and a training variant without a warhead is designated Izdeliye 305-UL. The missile was reportedly first tested in combat in Syria. It has been deployed in Ukraine since 2022, initially operated by FSB Mi-8MNP-2 helicopters and subsequently by Russian Aerospace Forces Mi-28NM and Ka-52M helicopters. Operational use has targeted buildings, warehouses, pontoon bridges, and both armored and soft-skinned vehicles.
