Busan Naval Base (부산 해군기지)

Busan Naval Base is a Republic of Korea Navy installation comprising a group of ports and shore facilities in Nam-gu, Busan, on South Korea's southeastern coast. It is the seat of the Republic of Korea Fleet Command, the ROKN's operational command, and also houses the headquarters of United States Naval Forces Korea.

The base berths surface combatants of the Republic of Korea Fleet, including Sejong the Great-class destroyers, and can accommodate the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships. Its berthing is dimensioned for United States Navy Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, and US Navy ships call at the port chiefly for combined training. Total capacity is around 30 vessels alongside simultaneously. The ROKN 7th Task Flotilla was stationed at Busan until December 2015, when it transferred to Jeju Naval Base.

Shore infrastructure includes the United States Naval Forces Korea headquarters building, a structure of one basement level and two above-ground storeys on a 9,040 m² site, completed in September 2015 at a cost of approximately KRW 6.4 billion; the command's relocation from Yongsan Garrison in Seoul was completed on 19 February 2016. The base is closed to the public.

Construction ran from January 2001 to 15 June 2006, taking five years and six months at a cost of KRW 50 billion. The base became operational in 2007 when the Republic of Korea Navy moved its fleet command from Jinhae Naval Base, a relocation driven in part by speed restrictions in the waters around Jinhae that slowed access to and from that base. Planning for the transfer of the US naval command to Busan was discussed in September 2010, with ground broken on the new headquarters on 29 August 2013.
