Leningrad Naval Base (Petrograd Naval Base)

Leningrad Naval Base is a formation of the Russian Navy's Baltic Fleet, headquartered at Saint Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. It is owned by the Russian Armed Forces and closed to the public. The base has been subordinated to the Baltic Fleet since 1994.

Subordinate units are concentrated at Kronshtadt, on Kotlin Island in the Neva estuary west of Saint Petersburg. These have included a submarine brigade, a naval region protection brigade responsible for water-area defence, and a brigade of ships under construction and overhaul, the latter reflecting the base's function in accepting and working up newly built and refitted hulls delivered by the Saint Petersburg shipyards.

Command of the base has been held by flag officers of rear admiral and vice admiral rank; the post was known in Soviet practice as the Commandant of the Kronstadt naval fortress. Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Rodionov has commanded since September 2017.

The base was established by Order No. 117 of 15 March 1919 of the Baltic Sea Fleet, which converted the Naval Forces of Petrograd into the Petrograd Naval Base. Renamed with the city as the Leningrad Naval Base, the formation was repeatedly disbanded, reorganised and re-established over the following decades before assuming its present structure under the Baltic Fleet.
