The Spanish Navy, the Armada Española, is a modern and balanced naval force with significant capabilities, playing a key role in Spain's defense and its contributions to international security frameworks like NATO and the EU. Its maritime strategy is adapting to a more complex global environment, with a long-term vision laid out in its "Armada 2050" plan. This strategy emphasizes multidomain operations, technological advancement, and interoperability with allied forces to project power and protect Spain's maritime interests.

The core of the Armada's surface fleet combines capable air-defense vessels with flexible power projection assets. A key element is the Juan Carlos I, a multi-purpose amphibious assault ship that can act as a de facto aircraft carrier, operating STOVL aircraft and helicopters. This provides significant expeditionary and power projection capabilities. The fleet is further strengthened by Álvaro de Bazán-class frigates equipped with the Aegis combat system, offering high-end anti-air warfare capabilities. The delivery of the advanced S-80 Plus-class submarines is another crucial shipbuilding program, replacing legacy boats and representing a major leap in Spain's sub-surface warfare capabilities.
