Description
TCG Piri Reis (S-330), lead boat of the Reis class of Type 214TN air-independent propulsion submarines, was commissioned at Aksaz Naval Base on 24 August 2024 in a ceremony attended by the Turkish President, who noted that more than 380 factory, harbour and sea acceptance tests had been completed, Naval News reported. Built at Gölcük Naval Shipyard with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the 68-metre, 1,850-tonne single-hull boat uses fuel-cell AIP for extended submerged endurance and is to receive the indigenous Akya torpedo and Atmaca anti-ship missile. Sister boat TCG Hızır Reis began sea trials the same day.
