Aksaz Naval Base (Aksaz Deniz Üssü)

Aksaz Naval Base (Aksaz Deniz Üssü) is a Turkish Navy installation on the south-east coast of the Aegean Sea, in Karaağaç Bay at Aksaz, some 13 km east of Marmaris in Muğla Province. It supports Turkish naval presence in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean.

The base accommodates elements of the Turkish Navy's Southern Sea Area Command, including the SAS (Su Altı Savunma, Underwater Defence) and SAT (Su Altı Taarruz, Underwater Attack) special operations units. Helicopters are stationed at the base. It is commanded by a rear admiral.

The installation covers roughly 32 km2 and combines operational and port facilities with barracks accommodation and social facilities for personnel. It is also used for logistic support by foreign navies.

Planning for a new naval base began in the late 1960s to meet Turkish Navy requirements in the Mediterranean and Aegean, and Karaağaç Bay was selected as a natural harbour able to hold a large fleet. Construction started in 1983. Infrastructure was completed in 1992, when naval units and vessels began moving in, and the base reached its final configuration in 2000.
