Italy Navy Giuseppe Garibaldi Retired

The aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi (C 551) was withdrawn from Italian Navy service in October 2024 and placed in reserve at Taranto ahead of disposal, after nearly 40 years in the fleet, Baird Maritime reported; her role passed to the new landing helicopter dock Trieste. In March 2026 Italy agreed to donate the ship to Indonesia, a transfer submitted to Parliament in February, and the Italian flag was lowered for the last time at Taranto on 24 August 2026 before she sailed for Indonesia under a mixed crew, Army Recognition reported. Garibaldi was commissioned into the Indonesian Navy as KRI Sriwijaya in September 2026.
