Description
The landing helicopter dock Trieste (L9890) was officially delivered to the Italian Navy at Livorno on 7 December 2024 in a ceremony attended by the President of Italy, Ares Difesa reported, entering service as the largest Italian warship built since the Second World War. Built by Fincantieri, the 245-metre ship displaces about 38,000 tonnes at full load and combines a floodable well deck for landing craft, a vehicle garage and a flight deck able to operate F-35B fighters and heavy helicopters, with a Role 2E hospital and berths for more than 1,000 personnel. Trieste is to serve as flagship of the Navy's amphibious task group within its expeditionary force.
