Description
The frigate Libeccio (F 572) lowered her flag for the last time at the La Spezia naval base on 9 April 2026, together with her sister Grecale, the Italian Navy announced; the ceremony was presided over by the Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Fleet. The two were the last of the eight Maestrale-class frigates built by Fincantieri in the early 1980s. Their service had been extended by the sale to Egypt of two FREMM frigates intended to replace them, Analisi Difesa reported. Over four decades they took part in Mediterranean patrols, NATO operations and counter-piracy missions.
