Description
Expended as a target during a sinking exercise conducted more than 50 nautical miles north of Kauai, Hawaii, on 12 July 2026 as part of RIMPAC 2026. Coalition units fired M142 HIMARS rockets, Type 12 anti-ship missiles, AGM-158C LRASM and Spike NLOS missiles at the hull before the Canadian Victoria-class submarine HMCS Corner Brook delivered the final blow with a Mk 48 Mod 7AT heavyweight torpedo. The cruiser settled in roughly 4,570 metres of water. Commissioned in February 1987, the fourth Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser served in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom before decommissioning in August 2023.
